About the Owner | Executive Director

Angie Rehnberg is a New Mexico artist, independent curator, arts professional, and the founder and executive director of Merge Modern, a contemporary art gallery based in Albuquerque. With more than 20 years of experience in the arts, her work bridges studio practice, exhibition curation, art handling, gallery operations, marketing, and community engagement.

A graduate of the College of Santa Fe (BFA, 2007), Angie has maintained an active studio practice while building a career centered on supporting artists and creating meaningful connections between art and the public. Her artwork spans painting, mixed media, photography, and interdisciplinary practices, often exploring transformation, identity, resilience, nature, and the complexities of the human experience. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Mexico in galleries, cultural spaces, juried shows, and community-based projects.

Angie’s professional background includes art handling and installation, gallery management, exhibition development, artist coordination, marketing and social media, collector relations, and event production. She has worked with and exhibited at spaces including Gallery Hózho, Gallery With a Cause at the New Mexico Cancer Center, OT Circus, the Albuquerque International Sunport, and numerous independent and community venues.

Since 2007, Angie has independently organized pop-up exhibitions, creative meetups, artist gatherings, workshops, and cultural events—often activating vacant or underutilized spaces as places for art and community to thrive. This grassroots approach helped shape Merge Modern, an artist-run gallery dedicated to providing New Mexico artists with thoughtful exhibition opportunities, professional support, and a platform for creative growth.

Today, Angie continues to lead Merge Modern with a focus on supporting working artists, creating accessible arts experiences, mentoring emerging creatives, and building a stronger, more connected arts community.
